Re: Engine stalls when reversing/turning wheel completely

Hum. Thanks for that Gull! Do I just disconnect both the plugs going into it? I also can't find where the AC boost valve is. Whereabouts is it and what does it look like?

What am I looking for once those are unplugged?

Re: Engine stalls when reversing/turning wheel completely

Its an '87 cabby. Let's see, in the last year or two, I've replaced the front fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, ignition wire set, 02 sensor, air filter. Only particular things I can think are relevant. I had originally thought my stalling issues were the cold start valve, hence w...

Engine stalls when reversing/turning wheel completely

Okay, so this is a strange problem that has recently come up in the last couple months, becoming more and more frequent. When I start my car sometimes, and reverse (usually without pressing on the gas or it being a bit light), my car stalls. Then I found an odd quirk while going to my bank...when I ...

curious what weight oils everyone puts in their bunnies..

It's one of those things I've never been to comfortable about having owned my 87 cabby for 2 years now, but since an oil change is coming up, I thought I'd ask what weight oil others are using and where they live? I live in Los Angeles, so the weather can hit the 80-110F easy during the summer, wint...

Re: O2 light on, not sore sure why.

also worth noting is my odometer went nuts a month ago and stopped counting for about 300-500 miles. It then went back to normal (at least the miles worked, the kilometers rolled nonstop). Then 4 days ago, it decided to read at 250k miles (up from 118k). It now reads 300k+. I'm guessing that has som...

Coolant leaking, what is this part?!

So I took my car to be serviced, got the brake proportioning valve replaced along with the master cylinder (turns out that had gone bad), and my rear brakes. The mechanics pointed out that I was low on coolant in the reservoir, and they added some. A bit odd since I had just added coolant sunday. Bu...

Re: O2 light on, not sore sure why.

hum, wasn't told that when I replaced my cat. Tried to reset my o2 sensor and the light is still on. The replacement gap between the two is about...10 months. So gull, your vote is for a new o2 sensor then? I went over the previous owner's smog tests and the cat is slowly gotten worse and worse. Whe...

Re: Master Cylinder question, brake fluid leak

okay, so after a 2nd trip to the mechanic, they couldn't find a proportional valve for my cabby. But I'll agree with the comments thus far, they don't appear to be bad. For once I think my mechanic was trying to hustle me by saying he was going to try to swap out my MC, valves and lines with a diffe...

Re: Master Cylinder question, brake fluid leak

haha, no worries. I get what you're saying. I'm just rather nervous about the doing brakes yourself deal since well, as you said it, it's your life. I'm not positively sure I'd trust myself with my life like that. lol. but then again 400 dollars to have someone just replace the mc and the valves see...

Re: Master Cylinder question, brake fluid leak

Apologies for the belated response, been a bit focused on building a new computer. heh. So I cleaned around the valves and the MC, added some fluid and let it sit a day or two. The leak is coming from the black rubber seal/gasket/washer (which you can see in my said photo..sorta) towards the top of ...

Re: O2 light on, not sore sure why.

I'm currently at 116k miles.. well sans that my odometer decided to stop working for a few weeks and recently started working again. What are the intervals the o2 sensor light comes up at?

O2 light on, not sore sure why.

So I just posted something about my brakes in the suspension forum, and of course, something new came up with my car. I was driving home and the 02 sensor light went on. The car's acceleration has been slightly off but I didn't think anything of it. I replaced the o2 sensor last year (thank you topl...

Master Cylinder question, brake fluid leak

So my brakes have been slowly slipping the last few months. Of course like a dummy I didn't think I was low on fluid until a couple weeks ago. I played it dumb and called my mechanic, asking him about the brakes feeling mushy and not having any stopping power. I put in some fluid and take her in the...

A good place in Los Angeles that replaces tops?

hi ho everyone. So the more I look into replacing the top on my 87 cabby, the more I'm intimidating at messing this up. I've seen the following links: http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=12313 http://www.toplessrabbit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1912 ...

Re: Idle running rough, help? (or "The Green Light Drag")

okay so I posted this in my oxy sensor post: unfortunately for me that [replacing my o2 sensor) didn't seem to fix the rough idle I've been experiencing. Upon driving my car last night, the idle seemed the same, if not worse. She even had trouble going uphill, getting stuck at 25 mph, reving very hi...
